The Co-use of Opioids and Alcohol Prevention Study (COAPS) addresses co-use of alcohol and opioids within community pharmacies. Co-use of alcohol and opioid medications can result in serious health risks, and pharmacists are on the frontlines of this public health threat. Our study developed ABI-MTM (Alcohol-targeted Brief Intervention – Medication Therapy Management) to tackle this issue in a retail pharmacy setting. We assessed pharmacy leaders, pharmacists, and technicians’ perceptions of a pharmacy-based screening and intervention for co-use and developed and tested acceptability, feasibility, and preliminary efficacy of ABI-MTM in a large retail environment.
