Deans Roundtable - DeVon Hale, MD'69

DeVon Hale, MD is a 1969 University of Utah School of Medicine graduate who is board certified in Internal Medicine, Infectious Diseases and Microbiology.  Dr. Hale began his career as a flight surgeon in the United States Air Force directly out of medical school.

Once separating from service he started a private practice in Idaho specializing in medicine and infectious disease.  Dr. Hale joined the University of Utah School of Medicine faculty in 1984 retiring in 2014 after serving as Assistant Dean of Global Health, Assistant Dean of Idaho Affairs and Vice President of ARUP.  Following retirement, in 2014, Dr. Hale served as faculty at the Rwanda Medical School for a year.

Dr. Hale says that the most satisfying part of his career was to help develop a global health program at the University of Utah School of Medicine.  What began as an unofficial attempt in 1998 to improve student and faculty international health experiences has become an established part of the School of Medicine. Dr. Hale is also a Past-President of the School of Medicine Alumni Association and a recipient of the Distinguished Service Award in 2006.
